E.T. phone home

Kyle was at a veterinarian convention in Kansas last week. I was a little lonely. Kids were being loud and chaotic. I needed a peaceful moment. Breckyn brought me an old movie she had found in the closet.

My kids don't watch a lot of TV so this was a special treat. I thought this would work out nicely, giving me a little break. I popped in the video and they were enthralled with it. I worried a little that maybe it was too mature for them, but they ate it up happily so I let them continue to watch it.

Big mistake. Ever since watching it Breckyn won't go ANYWHERE by herself. And by anywhere I mean, around the corner of where I am at just two feet away. She is terrified E.T. is going to pop up and get her. "Scared of E.T." has become her favorite excuse to not retrieve anything for me or go to the bathroom by herself. Kyra on the other hand is brave and aloof and helps Breckyn when she needs a companion to venture to the other side of the house with.

I just remembered E.T. being kind of sweet, even if he is a little gross looking. Well that is NOT how Breckyn saw him. I will be more selective with our television viewing in the future.
Turns out, Kyle was appalled I let them watch that movie. He was very afraid of E.T. as a child. Maybe that is why he has so many guns. Father like daughter.

Danalee, I made the same mistake too about a year ago! For about a month after the girls watched the movie, Kourtney was afraid E.T. would come into her room at night. It perpetuated from there until she was afraid of monsters in general for about 6 months not just at night but all day long! For your sake and Breckyn's, I hope she will forget about E.T. soon. I always saw him as such an adorable creature, but I guess we don't all feel the same way about him!

I am so scared of E.T. Not a fan of that show at all...seriously creepy but then again I thought Never Ending story was (and still is) the scariest movie ever :)

Ty is a scardey cat, but I don't know why...i didn't let him watch that, but my mom says letting him watch House MD isn't a great idea, but I just really wouldn't mind ir he decided to be a health care worker so why not let him get used to the guts now I say, but i was never scared of et either, instead of seeing santa in the moon I always wished i would see et...maybe another insite to my scrougey attitude hmm

ET is kind of scary, but loveable. Did you at least give them some Resese Pieces?

I laughed when I read this, because E.T. was also my first experience with fear. I too refused to go ANYWHERE by myself, sad to say I was quite a bit older then Breckyn, but still very scary!
