Tuesday night I put Ryder to bed just like normal. He was tired and went down without a complaint. Kyle had been gone all day so when he got home a few minutes later he was able to say goodnight to the girls before I was finished putting them to bed. I decided to to get Ryder up to say hi to his Daddy since he hadn't seen him all day and he was probably still awake.
I'm so glad I did. I found him sitting up quietly trying to itch his hive covered body. Then I noticed his swollen face. Mostly in his eyes and his lips. HUGE! It looked so wrong. I hurried to show Kyle who is good at staying calm in these types of situations where I am SO not. I was ready to run out the door with him to get him to the hospital but Kyle called the nurse. When she asked if there was any swelling and Kyle said yes, she said, "there IS!? Hang up and call 911!" So with that Kyle was out the door with poor Ryder who had started vomiting. He was getting worse fast. They took him into the ER (thankfully only minutes away) and immediately injected him with epinephrine and some other drugs. He came home a few hours later after the medicine had taken effect. So now we are waiting on some tests to figure out what triggered this. In the meantime we are paranoid about feeding him and armed with epiPens. Dairy is our main suspicion. Remember this post? Hopefully we will figure it out soon!
